On a creative level, the passion was there, as director Dean Israelite told Screen Rant that he wanted to have Lord Zedd in the sequel, but the producers clearly felt iffy about how to continue the thing, since - financially - it certainly wasn't a safe bet. While all those Marvel and DC heroes have crossover appeal, with everyone from grandparents to grandchildren being at least somewhat similar with the characters, Power Rangers is largely seen as a nineties thing: if you grew up with it, you love it, and if not, you barely know who these guys are. Between action scenes made using recycled footage from the Japanese Super Sentai shows, and characters built largely on stereotypes, the notion of making the Power Rangers into a serious franchise came with some steep challenges.
